I deeply mourn and strongly condemn the tragic death of one of our compatriots in Kuwait, which has sparked anger and grief among our fellow Filipinos, especially in Cagayan de Oro. This incident once again highlights the risks faced by our workers abroad, particularly in places where safety and rights protection are insufficient.
I call for a thorough investigation to uncover the details of this tragedy and to ensure that justice is served for our fellow Filipino. At the same time, I urge the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to strengthen their measures to ensure the safety of our workers in high-risk countries like Kuwait.
As your representative, I will continue to push for reforms that enhance the protection of our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). This includes stricter monitoring of their conditions, swift action on cases of abuse, and the reinforcement of bilateral agreements to guarantee their security.
Such a tragedy must never happen again. Our modern-day heroes deserve dignity and protection wherever they may be. We remain steadfast in fighting for your welfare and rights.
