Vice President Sara Duterte’s visit to Bauan, Batangas was marked by protests on Friday as she appeared as the guest of honor at a miting de avance for congressional candidate Ranae Abu, who is running for representative of the province’s second district
As Duterte arrived at the venue, several groups of protesters had already assembled near the area, holding placards and banners expressing their disapproval of the vice president’s policies and actions. Many of the slogans criticized her positions on key national issues such as education, alleged red-tagging of activists, and concerns over the use of public funds.

Chants calling for accountability and reform echoed through the streets, creating a stark contrast to the political rally taking place inside the venue. Despite the demonstrations, the event proceeded as planned, with Duterte delivering a speech in support of Abu’s candidacy.
The protest in Bauan reflects growing public concern over Duterte’s performance as both vice president and education secretary, particularly in light of recent controversies involving the Department of Education.
Local police maintained order at the site, ensuring that the protest remained peaceful and that security protocols were followed throughout the event.
This development adds to the increasing tension in the lead-up to the midterm elections, as public scrutiny of national and local officials continues to intensify
