Motorists traveling from San Pedro, Laguna to Metro Manila can now save up to 45 minutes of travel time with the opening of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) San Pedro Northbound Entry-Exit Interchange, which officially opened to the public on Friday, August 1, 2025.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the new interchange—designed with quality and innovation—is expected to benefit between 5,000 and 10,000 motorists daily. It also eliminates the need for Laguna-based drivers to detour to the Southwoods northbound exit.
The DPWH announced that the P915-million project was implemented by its Calabarzon Regional Office and the Laguna 2nd District Engineering Office through multi-year contracts that began in 2018.
“This project stands as a clear example of what we can achieve when we work together—government, private sector, and communities united under a shared goal,” said Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan.
The vision for the interchange began in July 2018, when the DPWH, Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), San Miguel Holdings Corporation, and the local government of San Pedro broke ground. The project was supported by then-DPWH Secretary Mark Villar and local leaders, highlighting strong collaboration between government agencies and the private sector.
Congresswoman Ann Matibag described the interchange as “a project dedicated to public service.”
Community leaders, including Hon. Jun Ynion, former Mayor Lourdes Cataquiz, and current Mayor Art Mercado, also commended the initiative as a testament to unity, forward-thinking governance, and San Pedro’s commitment to better connectivity.
Laguna Governor Sol Aragones expressed her gratitude to officials and partners, saying:
“Salamat sa pagbubukas ng oportunidad at sa pagiging tulay ng kaganapan sa pagpapaunlad ng turismo ng Laguna.”
Now fully operational, the San Pedro Northbound Interchange is more than just a traffic solution. It is expected to serve as a gateway to economic growth, boost tourism opportunities, and strengthen regional integration. Acting as a modern link between the capital and Southern Luzon, it marks a new era of accessibility and progress for San Pedro City and the province of Laguna.
