Thousands of students across the province have gained clarity and renewed hope after Laguna Governor Sol Aragones addressed concerns about the future of the provincial scholarship program.
During a recent Facebook Live broadcast, Gov. Aragones responded to public queries regarding the fate of the 18,000 scholars from the previous administration. Her message was firm and reassuring: “Ang sagot ko ay YES, wala akong puputulin, wala akong tatanggalin.”
The governor confirmed that all existing scholars will continue receiving their financial assistance, with the second semester payout scheduled between September and October. This assurance directly answered the frequently asked question: “Yung dating scholar ng nakaraang gobernador, maki-claim pa nila o mabibigyan pa sila ng subsidy para sa kanilang 2nd sem?”
In consultation with Assistant Provincial Administrator Carina Macalos, who oversees the scholarship program, Gov. Aragones emphasized that the 18,000 current beneficiaries will remain in the program. Moreover, she announced plans to expand the number of scholars to 25,000 under her administration, prioritizing inclusivity and accessibility.
She reiterated that political affiliation should never affect a student’s dream, urging beneficiaries to use the financial aid responsibly. “Buwis po ito ng mamamayan. Sana ay mapakinabangan ito ng mga estudyanteng may tunay na pangarap sa buhay,” she said.
The governor also introduced a lighthearted yet meaningful slogan: “Scholar ni Sol kahit ang grado ay palakol.” She explained that this reflects her intent to give opportunities even to students who may not have perfect grades but show the willingness to learn and improve. Guidelines for this policy are currently being finalized for implementation next year.
A new scholarship application and examination process is scheduled for November. Gov. Aragones reminded aspiring applicants: “Ang importante, makapasa po kayo sa exam—’yon ang number 1.”
According to Macalos, existing scholars will only need to submit three requirements: a certified true copy of grades, a registration form for the current semester, and a valid school ID. The governor clarified that the program is intended for college students.
Gov. Aragones concluded her message by assuring the public that the scholarship program will remain a beacon of hope and not a tool of political favor, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to placing education at the forefront of provincial priorities.
