The Makati Business Club (MBC), one of the country’s most influential business organizations, has expressed strong confidence in Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, describing him as a leader of integrity and innovation.
In a recent interview, MBC Executive Director Rafael “Apa” Ongpin shared that the business community holds a positive view of Nepomuceno’s leadership, citing his private sector background and reputation for professionalism.

“We’ve talked about him at the Makati Business Club. Quite a few members know him — he came from the private sector and has a solid reputation,” Ongpin noted. “He’s bright, tech-savvy, and most importantly, he has great integrity. So, we have high hopes for this guy, Mr. Nepomuceno.”
Nepomuceno’s appointment has been welcomed by various sectors, as he brings with him a wealth of experience from both government service and the corporate world. His leadership at the BOC is expected to focus on streamlining processes, curbing corruption, and embracing digital transformation — reforms that the MBC and the broader business community have long called for.
The endorsement from MBC serves as a strong vote of confidence and reinforces the need for trusted, capable leaders in key government agencies like Customs, which plays a central role in trade facilitation and anti-smuggling initiatives.
Commissioner Nepomuceno has earlier committed to pushing for transparency, digitalization, and greater accountability at the BOC — priorities that align closely with calls from the private sector for a more modern, efficient, and trustworthy customs system.
