Calamba City fundamentals positive for growth: economic professor

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The economic fundamentals of the city promote positive growth according to a professor on Thursday during the dialogue with the officials of the city government and the business group held at the Café-talista Community Café, The Junction Strip Mall, Carmelray Industrial Park I, Canlubang Village, here.

“You have the purchasing power, on the demand side, on the supply, there are plenty of businesses, along with the infrastructures,” said Ronilo Balbieran, economic professor of the University of Asia and the Pacific and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) consultant

, in an interview, who was also a speaker of the event.

He mentioned that the South Luzon Expressway and the Clark to Calamba Commuter Railway System bring closer the rich and the poor altogether resulting in the improvement of the lives of the poor to become rich and the rich to become richer.

Meanwhile, Christian Dy, an economist from the office of Representative Joey Salceda, explaining on the salient features of new laws on Ease of Doing Business and the Public Private Partnership commented in an interview the bright prospect of a progressive city.

“Based on what we heard from the presentation of the city legal officer, and what we see, this is probably the next best thing in South Luzon and probably the next best thing in the whole of the country,” he said adding that “if we can sustain the modernization, probably we can be the next Cebu.”

In attendance representing the local government were the heads of departments of city legal office, business process and licensing office, cooperative and livelihood office and the city administration office.

Representing the business sector were officers of Calamba Business Chamber, Laguna Chamber of Commerce, Calamba Brotherhood of Businessmen and Professionals, Rotary Club, Carmelray Industrial Park Association among others. Supporting the event were Pag-Ibig Fund, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Laguna, Security Bank and Air 21.
