With an emphasis on tactical preparedness and public safety, the 1st SINAG-LAYA PD Laguna Shooting Competition officially opened in Laguna. The event, a PPSA Level 1-sanctioned match, features five challenging stages and a minimum of 110 rounds. It was designed to help improve the shooting proficiency of both police personnel and licensed civilian gun owners, particularly after the recent gun ban related to the election season.
Originally scheduled two weeks earlier, the event was postponed due to inclement weather. Under the continued leadership of Provincial Director PCOL Jonar Yupio, the competition pushed through, fulfilling its goal of retraining and reconditioning firearm users in a post-election setting.
“First, layunin natin na ma-train ang ating mga pulis. Second, yung nga civilian counterpart magkaron na rin sila ng fine tuning dahil galing tayo sa election period na meron gun ban. So after election expected natin na they are agressive to review there firearms,” said PCOL Yupio.
“Kung itawag ng pagkakataon na kailangan bunutin yung baril nila, meron silang confidence na kaya nila protektahan ang mga civilian at kaya din nila protektahan sarili nila.”
PLTCOL Franco Allex Reglos, Deputy Provincial Director for Administration, emphasized the relevance of the activity in boosting police competence and fostering responsible firearm handling.
“All police personnel familiar sila sa firearms ang first and foremost talaga na main reason why nag organize ng competions. Ma enhance yung skills ng police natin mabuold ang confidence and ma encourage ang ibang pulis natin na mas maging knowledgeable pa sa pag gamit ng firearms,” he said.
He also acknowledged the vital support from the provincial government in bringing the event to fruition.
“All the way syempre, in less than 2 months nararamdaman namin yung suporta ni Governor Sol sa amin,” he added with gratitude.
Atty. Eliezer Gojas, Legal Officer of the Provincial Capitol and representative of Governor Sol Aragones, graced the opening ceremony and expressed the administration’s firm support for law enforcement and peace initiatives.
“Public service is not limited. Very unlimited ang public service napaka lawak nito.”
PD Yupio echoed this sentiment, praising Governor Aragones’ active role in both community-building and law enforcement efforts.
“Very thankful po kami sa ating governor na napakasipag. Last week launching alaga sa mamayan is their soft approach while this shooting is their hard approach,” he shared, referencing the recent Alaga sa Mamayan launch in Biñan City.
The first day of the competition saw enthusiastic participation from the chiefs of police representing 30 stations, two mobile force companies, and a team from the Laguna PPO. Civilian shooters are set to compete on the second day under the strict supervision and guidance of the PPO.
Organized by the Provincial Advisory Group of the Laguna PPO, the competition also functions as a fundraising initiative for equipment and other needs, with ongoing procurement plans and potential support from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
