Tanauan City, Batangas — November 23, 2024
The Tanauan City Police have stepped up efforts against illegal numbers games, known as “bookies,” with the launch of Oplan Bulldozer. This initiative targets illegal Small Town Lottery (STL) operations that undercut the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s (PCSO) legitimate programs.
Police Lt. Col. Virgilio Jopia, speaking at the Kapihan sa TCCPS forum, said the campaign is in line with Mayor Sonny Collantes’ directive to eliminate illegal gambling following Jopia’s appointment in July.
“Our objective is to stop illegal gambling in Tanauan while supporting authorized STL operators that benefit the community,” said Jopia.
Key Actions Under Oplan Bulldozer
Targeted Operations: Police have identified illegal operators and encouraged them to either stop or align with Refresh Gaming Corporation (RGC), the city’s authorized STL operator.
Barangay Support: Local officials are helping fight illegal gambling at the community level.
Community Awareness: The campaign promotes the benefits of supporting legitimate STL operations, which fund PCSO programs for the needy.
“We’ve seen a significant drop in illegal gambling activities, with some operators shifting to work with RGC,” Jopia noted.
Support for Legitimate STL
Noel Abadilla of RGC urged the public to only transact with authorized agents, who carry official ID cards. “By doing so, you support programs that help the poor,” he said.
The Tanauan City Police continue their commitment to fighting illegal gambling and encourage the public to report unauthorized STL operations.
