In his first-ever attendance at the State of the Nation Address (SONA), Biñan Lone District Representative Arman Dimaguila turned heads not just with his presence but with his powerful statement—woven into his barong.
Designed by Daryl Maat, the barong was more than a traditional attire; it was a canvas of culture and advocacy. The front design paid tribute to Biñan’s rich heritage, featuring the Historic Alberto Mansion, Plaza Rizal, the Maglalatik dance, and the famous Puto Biñan. According to Dimaguila, these elements represent the soul of Biñan and were showcased to honor its resilience and pride on a national platform.
“This is not just clothing,” said Dimaguila. “This is our story. I want the entire nation to see how beautiful and rich our city truly is.”
The back of the barong, however, carried a deeper call for change: the urgent need to dredge Laguna Lake. Highlighting the recurring flood issues that plague Biñan and neighboring towns, Dimaguila emphasized the importance of long-term solutions. He recently filed House Resolution No. 33, urging the House Committee on Ecology to revisit flood control measures and consider the implementation of a National Dredging Program for Laguna Lake.
“This barong is my armor for change,” Dimaguila declared. “I wear the pride of Biñan and the voice of those suffering from floods. I will not stop until we secure real, lasting solutions.”
The symbolic gesture blended art, culture, and legislative resolve—turning the lawmaker’s SONA outfit into a bold statement for both heritage and urgent environmental action.
