Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) is intensifying its dedication to sustainable and inclusive growth by prioritizing child rights and road safety in its operations.
Through its subsidiaries — NLEX, MPT South, CCLEC, and MPT Mobility — MPTC has launched impactful programs, educational campaigns, and partnerships to foster a safer and brighter future for children.
“As a company committed to economic and social development while minimizing environmental impact, we collaborate with socio-civic organizations and the private sector to champion children’s rights. We aim to provide a safe and healthy environment where children can thrive and pursue productive futures,” said Atty. Cynthia Casino, MPTC’s Chief Corporate Governance and Sustainability Officer.
Advocating Road Safety Through Education
In support of its road safety initiatives, NLEX Corporation introduced Ang Bida ng Kalsada, a picture book designed to teach children about responsible road use. The book was launched at the National Library of the Philippines and distributed to over 2,000 students across 20 public schools and other organizations.
MPT South also updated its Bayani ng Kalsada (Bayani Ka) book, which educates children about road safety and road signs. To date, the book has reached over 1,000 students, with 420 copies donated to schools, libraries, and institutions.
Celebrating World Children’s Day
On November 20, MPTC marked World Children’s Day by lighting key structures in blue, symbolizing its commitment to safer roads for children. These included the NLEX headquarters in Caloocan, the NLEX Drive and Dine rest stop in Valenzuela, MPT South’s LEED Gold-Certified South Hub in Cavite, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
Billboards along expressways and online platforms further amplified the message of child road safety, reaching a broader audience.
Embedding Child Rights and Safety Principles
MPTC took a significant step in 2024 by integrating Child Rights and Business Principles (CRBP) into its organization. A four-day workshop, conducted in collaboration with the Ateneo Human Rights Center (AHRC) and representatives from PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc., laid the foundation for future initiatives. In 2025, MPTC plans to conduct a Child Rights Impact Assessment (CRIA) to further advance its efforts.
Recognized Excellence
MPTC’s child road safety campaigns have earned prestigious accolades, including the Department of Health’s Healthy Pilipinas Gold Award, the Asia CEO Awards, and the ESG Business Awards 2024.
MPTC remains steadfast in its mission to create safer roads and empower children to lead healthy, happy, and productive lives.
