Barangay Information Officers (BIOs) from Pila, Victoria, Bay, Calauan, and Los Baños took part in a province wide orientation organized by the Provincial Information Office (PIO) with the support of Laguna Governor Sol Aragones. The program aimed to enhance grassroots communication by equipping BIOs with the skills necessary to provide accurate, timely, and responsible information to their communities.
The first session, led by Supervising Administrative Officer Nelson Bautista, focused on social media etiquette and basic event captioning. He highlighted the importance of proper online conduct and effective content creation in helping barangays communicate government programs, local events, and urgent announcements more efficiently.
This was followed by a session conducted by Anna Diana Mole of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), who discussed strategies to debunk fake news, understand disinformation, and uphold data privacy. She emphasized the critical role of verifying information, safeguarding sensitive data, and preventing the spread of misleading content—key responsibilities for information officers in today’s digital age.
The orientation concluded with reminders for BIOs about their roles as community citizen patrols. Participants were encouraged to prioritize accuracy, ethical reporting, and public trust, reinforcing their responsibility as frontliners in delivering fact-based communication at the barangay level.
The training underscores Laguna’s commitment to building a stronger, more informed, and digitally resilient communication network across all barangays. With enhanced skills and a clearer understanding of their roles, BIOs are now better equipped to support transparent governance and serve as reliable sources of information for their communities.
