MPCALA Holdings Inc., the concessionaire for the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), has announced that the CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange has reached a 25% completion milestone. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, this interchange is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on major Cavite roads, especially Aguinaldo Highway in Silang, and boost economic development in the surrounding cities and municipalities.
This segment of CALAX stretches 7.8 kilometers from the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive and will be the longest operational section by early 2025. Current construction activities include excavation, bridge and drainage work, and fence installation. Despite setbacks from recent typhoons, Raul Ignacio, President and General Manager of MPCALA Holdings Inc., remains confident that the project will be completed on schedule. Ignacio highlighted that the new interchange will ease traffic congestion, provide a quicker route for thousands of drivers, and foster economic growth throughout Cavite and CALABARZON.
Alongside the Governor’s Drive Interchange, progress is also being made on two other major segments of CALAX: Subsection 1 (Kawit Interchange) and Subsection 2 (Open Canal Interchange), which are 25% and 15% complete, respectively. Both segments are expected to open by the third quarter of 2025 and will connect CALAX to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) via the CAVITEX-CALAX Link.
Overall, the CALAX project is 64% complete and currently serves over 45,000 motorists daily. Once the full expressway is connected to CAVITEX, it is projected to accommodate at least 95,000 motorists each day, significantly improving traffic flow and connectivity between Cavite, Laguna, and the greater Manila area.
