During the Kapehan sa Bagong Pilipinas forum organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA 4A) in Biñan City, Laguna, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Assistant Regional Director Margaret Joyce Cortez shared with Southpost PH the breakdown of registered voters in Calabarzon.
She reported that Cavite has 2,460,981 registered voters spread across 16 municipalities and seven cities, covering eight congressional districts. Laguna has 2,150,051 voters in 24 municipalities and six cities, with six congressional districts. Batangas follows with 1,968,785 registered voters in 31 municipalities and three cities, also across six congressional districts. Rizal has 1,681,529 voters in 13 municipalities and one city, comprising six congressional districts, while Quezon has 1,502,824 registered voters in 39 municipalities and two cities, within four congressional districts.
Cortez stated that 75 candidates (61 males and 14 females) are vying for seats in the 31 congressional districts.
In the gubernatorial race, 28 candidates are competing for five positions, while 22 candidates are running for the five vice gubernatorial posts.
To promote transparency and integrity in the upcoming elections, Cortez announced that Comelec will conduct a voter education caravan. This initiative will introduce voters to the new automated counting machines and offer hands-on demonstrations of the voting process.
“We will be demonstrating the actual voting process using the new machines in every barangay (village) throughout the region,” she explained.
