This February, in celebration of National Arts Month, the City of Cabuyao, Laguna, took part in a commemoration of Filipino artistry and cultural heritage. As part of the festivities, the Cabuyao LGU invited local artists to bring life and color to the city’s national roads by painting vibrant murals on various walls, transforming ordinary spaces into captivating works of art.
The mural project, which took place along the city’s highways and inside the municipal gymnasium was not only aimed at beautifying the city but also at highlighting Cabuyao’s rich cultural history. Artists working together to create stunning masterpieces.
Reviving Cultural Heritage
The effort was led by Cabuyao Mayor Dennis Hain, who emphasized the importance of honoring the city’s past while nurturing its creative future. In an interview, Mayor Hain shared a piece of Cabuyao’s history:
“Cabuyao was founded on January 16, 1571, making it older than some of the regions we know today. It was once a bustling center of trade for many years. This mural project is a tribute to our history and serves as an inspiration to continue fostering our city’s cultural heritage.”

Art Exhibit Launch
Alongside the mural initiative, the city also opened an art exhibit at the DEPED clubhouse in CABS (Cabuyao Basic Athletes School), allowing residents and visitors to appreciate and engage with the artworks created by local artists. The exhibit, spearheaded by Sir Manny Garibay, showcased various pieces reflecting the creativity of the community

Future Goals
The Cabuyao LGU remains committed to promoting the arts, particularly through painting, and aims to make the city the Creative Culture Capital of the Philippines in the coming years. With initiatives like this mural project and art exhibitions, the city hopes to continue inspiring its community and preserving its cultural identity for future generations.
