Motorists traveling from North and Central Luzon and western Metro Manila are expected to have a more convenient route to Quezon City as construction of the NLEX-C5 Northlink Mindanao Avenue–Quirino Highway section nears completion.

Construction of the two-kilometer elevated expressway has reached 96%, bringing the project closer to providing motorists with an additional route option for their daily travels.

Once operational, the new section is expected to accommodate approximately 11,000 vehicles daily. It will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and serve all vehicle classes.

The new expressway will provide a direct alternative for motorists traveling from Quirino Highway to NLEX through the NLEX-C5 Northlink. From there, motorists can continue via the NLEX Connector toward Manila, the University Belt, and Makati, or travel northbound toward Central and North Luzon.

The additional connection is expected to give motorists greater flexibility in choosing their routes based on their destinations and prevailing traffic conditions.

NLEX President and General Manager Luis S. Reñon said the company is accelerating construction to deliver infrastructure that can help motorists save time and travel costs amid unpredictable fuel prices.

“We want to give motorists greater freedom not only in how they travel, but also in how they spend their time and money,” Reñon said.

He added that while fuel prices and other travel-related expenses are beyond the company’s control, reliable road infrastructure can help people reach their destinations more efficiently.

Designed to provide a safer and more convenient driving experience, the elevated expressway will feature CCTV and speed management systems, advanced RFID readers and Neology antennas for toll collection, roadway lighting, traffic signs, pavement markings, concrete barriers, and reflective safety devices.

Construction is now focused on completing the installation of concrete barriers and expansion joints along the mainline, finishing the westbound and eastbound on- and off-ramps along Quirino Highway, and carrying out the remaining civil works in preparation for operations.

The two-kilometer Segment 8.2 Section 1A forms part of the 11.3-kilometer NLEX-C5 Northlink Project, which will connect Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia near Katipunan Avenue.

The broader project aims to strengthen road connections between Metro Manila and Central and North Luzon through the NLEX network, providing motorists with additional travel options and improving regional accessibility.
