Atty. Ramon S. Esguerra, counsel for Senator Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero, said the accusations raised by Bernardo are “nothing new,” noting that similar claims have already been denied and disproven in the past.
According to Esguerra, Bernardo’s testimony fails to provide any direct evidence linking Senator Escudero to any criminal activity. He stressed that the statements being circulated are “mere speculation and insinuation,” describing them as hearsay, baseless, and self-serving — assertions that he believes would not stand in court.
Esguerra added that the allegations appear intended to smear Senator Escudero’s name and undermine the Senate’s integrity.
“We remain confident that the facts and evidence will clear Senator Chiz, expose these accusations as malicious and unfounded, and ultimately affirm his innocence,” he said.
