Laguna 1st District Representative Ann Matibag spearheaded emergency relief operations for families affected by a landslide in Barangay Sampaguita on the evening of Thursday, July 17.
The landslide, caused by intense rainfall from Typhoon “Crising” and the enhanced southwest monsoon, struck around 10:00 p.m., rendering the homes of seven families — a total of 37 residents — uninhabitable.

Rep. Matibag, widely known as “Lagunanay,” immediately visited the affected area to oversee the distribution of assistance. Each displaced family received ₱10,000 in cash aid, along with grocery packages and hygiene kits. The relief efforts were carried out in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the Zonta Club of Laguna.
“Hindi dapat mawalan ng pag-asa ang ating mga kababayan,” she said, emphasizing the need for unity and swift recovery efforts.
She also urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to begin immediate infrastructure rehabilitation to prevent further hazards.
The displaced families are currently staying at the Barangay Hall, which is serving as a temporary evacuation center, as authorities continue to monitor the area due to on going rainfall.
